Winnipeg man Kevin John Rose alleged to be kid-porn broker

September 19, 2009
The Winnipeg Sun

Police say a Winnipeg man is accused of brokering several online exchanges of child pornography videos and images between the sickos who create it and the perverts who crave it.

Kevin John Rose, 36, of Winnipeg is charged with four counts each of counselling to commit/make child pornography and importing/distributing child pornography, and two counts of possessing child pornography.

Const. Jason Michalyshen, a Winnipeg police spokesman, said the suspect was an alleged middleman between customers and purveyors who live around the world but isn't accused of personally assaulting children.

Police say customers contacted the suspect through at least one website and requested videos or images of minors -- boys or girls -- in specific sex acts.

In turn, the suspect allegedly contacted people who produce or distribute the images, received the images from them, and sent them to the customer.

Police said the service's Internet child exploitation unit began its investigation and searched a Winnipeg home on Aug. 14, 2008.

Detectives seized computers and electronic storage devices and allegedly found an undisclosed amount of child porn images during a preliminary analysis, police said.

The suspect was charged and released from custody but the investigation into the files stored on the computers and devices continued.

During that time members of the police technological crimes section found more child-abuse images and evidence of the suspect's alleged involvement as a middleman, police said.

The suspect was re-arrested by the Internet child exploitation unit Wednesday. He is in custody.
