A Halifax man faces charges as a result of a search conducted this morning by members of the HRP/RCMP Integrated Internet Child Exploitation Unit.

Members of the Unit executed a search warrant just after 6 a.m. at a Sunnybrea Avenue residence. A quantity of evidence was seized including two computers, an external hard drive, memory sticks and numerous CDS. Forty-two-year-old Peter James Dominix of Halifax was arrested without incident subsequent to the search.

Dominix is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date to face charges of accessing, possessing and distributing child pornography

A Halifax man who used to work at daycare centres has been sent to jail for accessing child pornography on the Internet.

Peter James Dominix, 43, of Sunnybrae Avenue had been scheduled to stand trial in Halifax provincial court Monday on three child pornography charges.

But court records show that his case was docketed earlier and dealt with on July 30, when he pleaded guilty to one charge.

Judge Marc Chisholm accepted a joint recommendation from lawyers and sentenced Dominix to six months in jail, followed by a year on probation.

Police downloaded child pornography from Dominix’s computer using LimeWire, an Internet file-sharing service. He was arrested last Oct. 23 after police got a warrant to search his residence. Officers seized two computers, an external hard drive, memory sticks and computer disks and laid charges of accessing, possessing and distributing child pornography.

Dominix was employed at at least seven daycares in Halifax and one in Lower Sackville.
