A Halifax man charged with prostitution-related offences and other offences has been granted bail after he appeared in Halifax provincial court Friday.

Darrell Robert William Fisher, 22, is charged with living off the avails of a person under the age of 18, compelling a person to engage in prostitution, keeping a common bawdy house, assault and uttering threats.

He is accused of forcing a 17-year-old girl to become a prostitute and then threatening to kill her if she stopped working for him.

Fisher, a slight, bespectacled man with close-cropped hair, is free on $5,000 bail and will be under house arrest until his next court appearance Feb. 3. He was also ordered to have no contact with the complainant and four other people.

The alleged victim’s identity is protected by a court order.

Based on the girl’s statement, members of the regional police-RCMP integrated vice unit got a warrant to search Fisher’s home Dec. 11. Officers seized a computer and other items.
