The Zoo
« on: June 18, 2012, 07:21:52 PM »
Been wanting to go to the zoo here for a while. Might go tomorrow.

Anthing unmissable?

Is there a cafe or similar there? I can't believe there's nothing on their website about  what refreshments are available.

The last time I was there I saw a couple of vending machines with pop in them and dispensers full of duck food. I think they have a take out hidden somewhere, unless they took it out.

We got there to see a notice saying the food facilities (or whatever expression it was) were temporarily only available at weekends. There were two or three snack bars around.

Still, we had a bonus. We were four and one senior but with MrsB in her wheelchair, apparently they allow a "helper" in free.

Damned expensive in the taxi though. The recent fares changes allow drivers to charge a $ for additional passengers. Most drivers aren't charging this, just as most drivers don't charge the $3 for a requested van or the extra for bags.

But it was added in both directions.  :(

Can't really complain. But over $50 to get there and back home while only $38 for 5 to get in.

What do they charge for rent to live there? (Maybe it's cheeper than admission for a month). The animals are well taken care of. They have lots of fresh air. They have lots of visitors. They are fed well. They have lots of fresh water. They aren't allowed in downtown bars, but who cares? Sounds like great living accomodations to me. But seriously, the rent would most likely be cheaper than the costs of getting there and back. I would like to see either Codiac Transit have a couple of bus runs there every day, or somebody else provide the service at a price the average low income person (or family of five) (I didn't say Brits) can afford (Codiac Transit always did a great job in the past). I'm sure a lot more people in Moncton would like to be able to go there more often as it shouldn't only be enjoyed by tourists. Some of us are just in no condition to pedal a bike that far or pay for taxis (for 5 people) there and back. I hope somebody can understand what I'm trying to say.

Even though it's run like a zoo, it's still a good zoo.

It's pretty shocking that nobody seems to be objecting to the city winding down the bus service.

Maybe there's a market for the casino to step in and provide a service that takes in the other venues out there. Or that service to Halifax to do it.

Hey Bristol, There are people very ticked off about the loss of the Magic Mountain/Magnetic Hill Zoo/Casino bus. Others don't give a poop. Those who don't give a poop mostly have cars and can get there whenever it's convenient. As for the rest of us, who cares? As a typical city of Moncton resident, I never appreciated what I had til it was gone. And I think it's gone (wink wink) but not out of the low income person's reach yet. I will start looking around for reasonable solutions to our trouble.

Because of the wheelchair we need to get a taxi for everywhere that's not a few minutes away. But occasionally I'll do a "big" shop going by bus and back in a taxi.

It's not easy to carry 20 2L bottles of pop on a bike.

But my step daughter goes to work by bus and a few times lately she's given up waiting, come home and got a taxi. If she does that in both directions that's an extra $16 each time.  :(
