Sounds like she didn't believe he was going...or completely forgot.

Sounds like the occasional phone call wouldn't have gone amiss or at least a visit to an internet cafe to send an email. Or a postcard?

How many couples in a worthwhile relationship would part for two weeks without some sort of agreement regarding contact? That may be key.
